***SPECIAL FLOOD NOTE FOR MANITOBA PRODUCERS, HOSTS AND LISTENERS:

***FRIDAY MORNINGSIDE FLOOD SPECIAL:

On Friday, Morningside becomes The Red River Rally, with host Peter
Gzowski, a benefit to aid victims of the Manitoba flood. Listeners will be
able to call in with donations to a 1-800 telephone number. The Red River
Rally will feature performances by musicians, poets and performers from
across the country. Loreena McKennitt, Murray McLauchlan, Mechants
Maquereaux, Barbara Ann Quigley, Anton Kuerti, Moxy Fruvous, Cindy Church
of Quartette, Farmer=92s Daughter, Ken Whitely, Brad Roberts of Crash Test
Dummies and John McDermott have already confirmed their participation.
"Some people might call this a prairie social - you know, where friends and
neighbours gather together and lend support, both emotional and financial,
a kind of outpouring," says Gzowski. "We want those in Manitoba and
elsewhere who are affected by the flood to know that we want to help.
We=92re hoping to raise a lot of money and, if we=92re lucky, a few
spirits." That's Morningside this Friday, 9:06 to noon, (9:36 to 12:30 NT)

RADIO

1. MORNINGSIDE:

Today on Morningside, Peter Gzowski has continuing coverage of the Red
River flood in Manitoba. Also, on Friday's Morningside, the entire show
will be devoted to the Red River Rally - an old fashioned prairie social
with singers and performers from across the country helping to raise money
for flood relief. That means that today's show will feature the political
forum that is usually heard on Friday. Got that? As well, Lighthouse, the
successful music group in the 70s --- they're back!! That's on Morningside,
9:06 to noon, (9:36 to 12:30 NT) on CBC Radio.

2. GABEREAU:

Peter Light has hundreds of types of bamboo growing on his property on the
Sunshine Coast. Vicki pays him a visit, and finds out why he's such a
bamboo-booster: you can weave with it, cook with it, build with it and a
whole lot more. Peter Light is Vicki's guest this afternoon on Gabereau at

3. AS IT HAPPENS:

Tonight on As It Happens... An alternative treatment for menopause, and a
controversy over the regulation of health products. Canadian authorities
stopped a shipment of the natural-product cream at the border, and the
distributor says it's because the officials have a bias against alternative
medicine. Find out more tonight on As It Happens, with Michael Enright and

4. IDEAS:

Tonight on Ideas...more on "The Public Good." This evening, it's "Time on
our Hands." Technology was supposed to bring about democratic leisure.
Instead, we have a democracy of goods and we're working harder. Writer

5. BETWEEN THE COVERS:

Sandra Gulland's novel "The Many Lives and Secret Sorrows of Josephine B"
continues tonight on Between the Covers. Rose Tascher jumps at the chance
to leave the island of Martinique and marry a French aristocrat. He is
chronically unfaithful and she is unhappy. But she struggles to keep their
marriage together after her son is born. That's "The Many Lives and Secret

6. RADIO CONCERT HALL:=20

This morning on Radio Concert Hall, host Peter Tiefenbach has a concert by
the Alcan Quartet recorded in Montreal. They'll play Kelly Marie Murphy's
This is My Voice, Shostakovich's String Quartet no 11 op 122, Bela Bartok's
String Quartet no 5, and Arvo Part's Fratres for String Quartet. That's
Radio Concert Hall, with host Peter Tiefenbach, at 9:05 (9:35 NT) on CBC
Stereo.

7. CHAMBER MUSIC AT NOON:

Today Chamber Music at Noon presents a concert from the Chamberworks Series
in Toronto. Violinist Martin Beaver joins forces with cellist Jack
Mendelsohn, clarinetist Stephen Pierre and pianist Valerie Tryon. They'll
play the Handel-Halvorsen Passacaglia for Violin and Cello, Milhaud's Suite
for Clarinet, Violin and Piano, and Dvorak's Dumky Trio. Join host Alexa
Petrenko for Chamber Music at Noon (half an hour later in Newfoundland) on
CBC Stereo.

8. ENCORE!:

=20 This evening on Encore, a concert from Montreal featuring the Emerson
String Quartet with Dennis Brott, cello, and Han Wu, piano. It's an
all-Schubert program, featuring his String Quartet in D, D810, the Piano
Triosatz and the Cello Quintet, D956. Later, Bob Kerr presents an hour of
his favourite recordings. That's this evening on Encore! with host
Katherine Duncan, beginning at 7:00 (7:30 NT) on CBC Stereo.

TELEVISION

9. ADRIENNE CLARKSON PRESENTS:=20

Tonight on Adrienne Clarkson Presents, "Canvas of Conflict." Canada's War
Artist program began as a propaganda tool, a way to document the "glories
of war" during World War One. It became an effective and disturbing way to
document the agony of war instead. It also launched the careers of many
Canadian artists, including F.H. Varley and Arthur Lismer, both members of
the Group of Seven. Don't miss this look at Canada's War Artists, "Canvas
of Conflict,"=20 on Adrienne Clarkson Presents tonight at 7:00 p.m. on CBC

10. K.D. LANG:

This evening, CBC Television offers an encore presentation of a special
profile of singing star k.d. lang. This intimate portrait was filmed in
Vancouver and Los Angeles.=20 The film tracks her journey to stardom from
her childhood in a small town on the wheat plains of Southern Alberta, to
her appearance on the cover of Vanity Fair, to the present day, an
important juncture in her career. She also allowed the cameras
unprecedented access to her private recording studio to film her at work on
her new album, laying down the multi-octave, soaring, swooping vocals that
have earned her the reputation of being one of the outstanding popular

11. U.K. ELECTION:

coverage of the U.K. election this evening beginning at 5:00 p.m.
