2. GABEREAU:

engineer. And among the things she's been working on are improved
artificial hip and knee joints to replace the current ones, which are
particularly prone to infection. She's also working on a newer, better
version of the diagnostic tool known as the MRI. Nancy Paris-Seeley is
Vicki's guest this afternoon on Gabereau at 2:06 (2:36 NT) on CBC Radio.

3. AS IT HAPPENS:

Tonight on As It Happens... You think you know how to get a barbecue going
just right...? Bet you haven't tried the George Goble method. His briquets
are ready in less than five seconds, because he lights them with rocket
fuel. You can see the fireball all over the neighbourhood, and not many
people want the first hamburger off the grill. Find out more tonight on As
It Happens, with Michael Enright and Barbara Budd at 6:30 (7:00 NT) on CBC
Radio.

4. IDEAS:

Tonight on Ideas...more on "The Public Good." Would it be better in the
long run, for Canada to declare national bankruptcy? It is impossible to
miss the impact of efforts to reduce the national debt. Is bankruptcy the
answer? Recently Toronto's Bar Italia, hosted a debate on that idea, with
TVO Imprint's H.S. Bhabra and Vision TV's Irshad Manji on one side. On the
other side were Anthony Keller, editorial board member of the Globe and
Mail, and columnist Andrew Coyne. Hear that debate tonight on Ideas at 9:05
(9:35 NT) on CBC Radio.

5. BETWEEN THE COVERS:

Tonight on Between the Covers, more from "The Many Lives and Secret Sorrows
of Josephine B." Before she meets Napoleon Bonaparte, Josephine is known as
Rose. Married to a minor French Aristocrat, she is deeply unhappy. Finally,
she divorces him for adultery and wins at least temporary custody of their
children. But hers may be a Pyrrhic victory, because she may be plunged
into poverty. Don't miss tonight's reading from "The Many Lives and Secret
Sorrows of Josephine B" tonight on Between the Covers, right after the 10
o'clock news (10:30 NT) on CBC Radio.

NEWSWORLD

10. FACE OFF:

Tonight on Face Off...Canadians may be caught up in their own election
fever, but there was a vote worth watching yesterday in the United Kingdom.
British Prime Minister John Major went to the polls yesterday trailing
badly and dogged by popular Labour leader Tony Blair. The issues in that
vote are similar to the ones Canadians are facing - taxes, the economy,
privatization, devolution of power. What does last night's result in
Britain mean - for Britons, and for the rest of the world? Toronto Star
columnist Richard Gwyn and York University political science prof Leo
Panitch debate the results on Face Off, with hosts Judy Rebick and Claire
Hoy, tonight at 8:30 and 12:30 (EASTERN) on CBC Newsworld.

11. PAMELA WALLIN LIVE:

Tonight on Pamela Wallin Live...singer Jon Secada. The two-time
Grammy-winner started out as a backup singer for Gloria Estefan. He then
teamed up with the likes of Luciano Pavarotti and Frank Sinatra. But it's
as a solo act that Secada has sold more than 16 million albums. An
exploration of music and life with one of the great voices in pop music.
Also...astronaut Dave Williams. Williams will be the sixth Canadian to head
into space when he boards the space shuttle Columbia next March. The
scuba-diving doctor jokes that he'll be "part guinea pig, part scientist"
during the special Neurolab mission. That's on Pamela Wallin Live, tonight
at 9:00 (EASTERN) on CBC Newsworld. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If
