Michigan Militia

(All)
I like to keep it in the refrigerator.
(Mike speaking through distortion)
Keeps the powder dry, and the action quicker.
(All)
Let me be your American Gladitor.
(Mike speaking)
Find enclosed an adhesive N.R.A. sticker.

(Mike speaking)
A letter t' you from where I been holed up
in this bucolic, agrarian compound.
One step ahead
(rest)
just ahead
(Mike speaking)
of the government bloodhound.

The gas is off, it's a national showdown.
(deep voice)
BUT...
(All)
Sure wish that I could visit you,
my sweet betrothed.
(Mike speaking)
In a couple a' days
we'll all be free,
or we'll be dead.

(Jian)
Happy Birthday, Trisha,
I'm in the Michigan Militia.
Happy Birthday, Trisha,
I'm in the Michigan Militia.

(All)
I'm fencing off this little piece of heaven.
(Mike speaking)
Cross the line and you're electrocuted.
(All)
Polishing up my AK47.
(Mike speaking)
It's a constitutional right, can't be refuted.

(Mike speaking)
Now they got us on TV,
and makin' us look stupid.
Shot of me flippin' my lid,
at that mutt reporter,
a classic case of race dilution

(All)
Houston,

(Mike speaking)
What is the problem?
(All)
I'm fighting for you, and a blue-eyed Jesus.
(Mike speaking)
America first,
the rest get the pieces.

(All)
Na Na Na Na.

(All)
Happy Birthday, Trisha,
I'm in the Michigan Militia.
Happy Birthday, Trisha,
I'm in the Michigan Militia.

Fighting for your honour,
like would any Afrikaner.
Happy Birthday, Trisha,
I'm in the Michigan Militia.

Our numbers are strong, and it won't be long
'til I can tell you, Trisha, that we won.
You'll be ecstatic, just like that night
you told me up in the attic.
That was your wish again,
to be back in a purified Michigan

down on...! down on...!

(Mike speaking)
...the farm?

(moog solo)

(Mike speaking)
Well, that's my wish again,
to be back in Michigan.

(All)
Happy Birthday, Trisha,
I'm in the Michigan Militia.
Happy Birthday, Trisha,
(Well, that's my wish again, to be back in Michigan)
I'm in the Michigan Militia.

I hope y'like the double barrel,
I think it goes with your apparel.
Happy Birthday, Trisha,
(Well, that's my wish again, to be back in Michigan)
I'm in the Michigan Militia.

(All)
I like to keep it in the refrigerator.

Get in the Car

(Dave)
I'm alright...

(All)
Look what I'm drivin'.
Look at the curves
and my overhand serve,
it's more than survivin'.

Get in the car.
Get in the car.
Don't give me that,
you know who you are.

(Dave)
The answer is here,
it isn't that far.

(rest)
isn't that far.

(All)
Get in the car.

(Dave)
I'm in love...

(All)
Look what I'm drivin'.
A break-in alarm,
and you on my arm,
totally thrivin'

(Dave)
Twist and turn...

(All)
Look at her dancin'.
We're havin' some fun,
she's a trophy I won.
Baby's enhancing.

Get in the car.
Get in the car.
Don't give me that,
you know who you are.

(Dave)
The answer is here,
isn't that far.

(rest)
isn't that far.

(All)
Get in the car.

(guitar solo)

(Dave)
You fill me...

(All)
with big emotion.
We'll jump in the back,
turn up the 8-track,
I got Billy Ocean.

Get in the car.
Get in the car.
Don't give me that,
you know who you are.

(Dave)
The answer is here,
isn't that far.

(rest)
isn't that far.

(All)
Get in the car!
Get in the car!
Get in the car!
Get in the car!

I've Gotta Get a Message to You

(by The BeeGees)

(Jian & Murray on lead)
Well, the preacher turned to me
and he smiled.
He said, "Come and walk with me,
come and walk one more mile."

Now, for once in your life, you're alone,
and you ain't got a dime.
There's no time for the phone.

I told him I'm in no hurry,
and if I broke her heart,
then please tell her I'm sorry.
Now for once in my life I'm alone,
but I've gotta let her know,
one more time before I go.

(All)
I've just gotta get a message to you.
Hold on. Hold on.
One more hour and my life will be through.
Hold On. Hold on.

(female voice)
Swing it.

(deep male voice)
?get a little more?

(solo)

(All)
I've just gotta get a message to you.
Hold on. Hold on.
One more hour and my life will be through.
Hold On. Hold on.

(Jian)
Well, I laughed, but that didn't hurt,
and it's only her love
that keeps me wearing this smirk.
Now I'm crying, but deep down inside,
I did it to him, now it's my turn to die.

(All)
I've just gotta get a message to you.
Hold on. Hold on.
One more hour and my life will be through.
Hold On. Hold on.

(All - key change)
I've just gotta get a message to you.
Hold on. Hold on.
One more hour and my life will be through.
Hold On. Hold on.

(All)
I've just gotta get a message to you.
Hold on. Hold on.
One more hour and my life will be through.
Hold On. Hold on.

Lazlo's Career

(Jian)
Everyone has a groovy time with Lazlo.
He speaks poetry and brings us cheer.

(All)
We have lots of friends back in Ontario.
But right now, there is no better place than here
for Lazlo's career.

(Jian)
Take some time to change your mind,
this is the place that you will find.

(All)
The cat is phat, the cat is phat,
the cat is phat, the cat is phat.

(Jian)
Take some time, expand your mind,
do what he'd do, to be happy.
(All)
Are you happy,
(Jian)
on your own?
Don't go home.

(All)
Everyone has a groovy time with Lazlo.
We know the effervesence will be near.
We have lots of friends back in Ontario. (Our home)
But right now, there is no better place than here
for Lazlo's career.

(guitar solo)

Lazlo's career

(Jian)
Take some time to change your mind,
'cuz this is the place that you will find.
(All)
You won't go back, it's where it's at,
you gotta pat the man, the hat, an' that's a fact.

(Jian)
Take your time, expand your mind,
do what he'd do, to be happy.

Sahara

(Mike on lead)
Do you recall those days of Sahara?
Shade was our ecstasy.
Pride was strong, friends true
as the day was long,
night winds blew cool and free.

Our finest hours lived in the Sahara
many centuries ago.
Was it just last year?
Now there's no more good whiskey here.
Not a trace of hidey-ho.

I was never alone at the Sahara.
How they'd gather to hear me speak,
they said my eyes held fire,
but a gold empire burned to the ground,
the world unwound, and left me here a freak.

(violin solo)

Bring back those days
of that blessed Sahara.
Oh, the sin, the sabotage.
We had no fears,
the band played for a thousand years,
or was it just a mirage?

or was it just a mirage?

(violin solo)

(Jian-vocals, drums, dumbek, percussion; Mike-lead vocal, guitar; Murray-bass, mandolin, talking drunk, electric guitar; Danny Levin-strings)

Lee

(Dave on lead)
Only just we two
blood in my veins
the shadow of you

Perfect as frost
on the flowers
How a contrary calls
day always breaks
night always falls

Rotten fruit and bending trees
rocketships and our disease

So come with me up to the balcony
and we'll fall like paper planes
In the morning the paper will say
"Lovers fly away"

Even alone I'm your fool
I can't keep my word
the edge of the pool

Red rushing sound
in my ears
as the candles burn down
one lights the way
one disappears

Tiny portraits smashed on the floor
I can't kneel at your bed anymore

So, come with me up to the balcony
and we'll fall like paper planes
In the morning the paper will say
"Lovers fly away"

No No Raja

(Jian on lead)
I wanna taste it,
give me a little taste.
I wanna taste it again.

(All)
Oh, no, no Raja,
don't you go back to her.
No, no Raja, don't you.

(Jian)
I wanna smell it,
just a little smell.
I wanna smell it again.

(All)
Oh, no, no Raja,
don't you go back to her.
No, no Raja, don't you.

(Jian)
And it's so hard,
khaili mushkileh, (*See below*)
it's standing so hard again.

(All)
Oh, no, no Raja,
don't you go back to her.
No, no Raja,
don't you.

(Jian)
I want it stupid,
just a little feel.
I wanna feel it again.

(All)
Oh, no, no Raja,
don't you go back to her.
No, no Raja, don't you.

(Jian)
For Raja, quiescence was wrong from the start.
Now Raja bleeds out his broken heart.

I want it stupid.
Just a little feel.
I wanna feel it again.

(All)
Oh, no, no Raja,
don't you go back to her.
No, no Raja, don't you.

No, no Raja,
don't you go back to her.
No, no Raja, don't you.

**Thanks to Nancy McGrath for this info: The "foreign language" in which Jian mutters during "No No Raja" is (no surprise) Farsi, which is the language of his native (or at least ancestral) country, Iran (Persia).

The words he says are, (transliterated into English characters) "khaili mushkileh," which translates as "big problem" or "very problematic."

I confess I am amazed at myself; I studied Farsi for only one year a long time ago (much longer ago than I care to admit) but I still remember a fair amount of it. (Of course, the second word is also really an Arabic word, and I am nearly fluent in Arabic, so I guess remembering "khaili," which roughly translates as "very," is not such a big deal...)

The Incredible Medicine Show

(Murray on lead)
We are here,
to calm your fears,
and turn your world around.

The man to my right,
with the headset mic,
will stroll you through the grounds.

So enjoy your stay,
it's seafood day,
and surgery's at five.

(Jian)
We can correct what nature supplies
'cuz beauty is something money buys.

(All)
Don't say no to the incredible medicine show.
Don't say no to the incredible medicine show.

(Murray)
The double chin,
can be tucked in,
the wrinkles we can hide.

Some herbal tea
and Chromium D
with 'drink me' on the side.

The little fear
when you look in the mirror
gets bigger every day.

(Jian)
It takes work,
but it can be done,
to look 23 at 51.

(All)
Don't say no to the incredible medicine show.
Say no, don't say no.
Don't say no to the incredible medicine show.
Say no, don't say no.

Na na na, na na na na.

(guitar solo)

(Mike)
Smoke and mirrors,
dogs and ponies,

(Murray)
The President of the United States
and his cronies.

(Mike)
Clean and colorful,
bright and ghoulish.

(Murray)
A fountain of youth
for the vain and the foolish.

(Murray)
Mrs. Booth,
you're a picture of youth,
those lips should last a while.

And carrot juice
will help reduce
that creaking when you smile.

(All)
Don't say no to the incredible medicine show.
Say no, don't say no.
Don't say no to the incredible medicine show.
Say no, don't say no.

Don't say no to the incredible medicine show.
(Murray: We are here to calm your fears)

Your New Boyfriend

(Jian)
Well, it was me, you, and Jacko
and your new buddy Tacco

(rest)
No cause for alarm,
about the flag on his arm.

(Jian)
You said the politics matter,
but we're all getting fatter.

(rest)
You'll take what you get,
with this Republican vet.

(All)
Well, have you really changed
that much since school?
when any Nazi couldn't swim in your pool?
Your new boyfriend's a bit
of a right wing shit.

(Jian)
We gave the finger to Sony,
and threw macaroni.

(rest)
When we first kissed,
and Mulroney was pissed.

(Jian)
You said that you would never end up,
with a Goldwater send-up

(rest)
Well that's what you said,
when we were both in debt.

(All)
Well, have you really changed
that much since school?
when any Nazi couldn't swim in your pool?
Your new boyfriend's a bit
of a right wing shit.

(guitar solo)

(All)
Well, have you really changed
that much since school?
when any Nazi couldn't swim in your pool?

he's a right wing shit!
he's a right wing shit!
he's a right wing shit!
he's a right wing shit!

Boo Time

(Chorus)
It's Boo Time
Boo Time
It's Boo Time

(spoken)
Stop it.

(Mike on Lead)
When every wanker's wound up tight,
frigid, fractious, and forthright,
the plebes plugged up with plebescite,
Trim the trad, go troglodyte

(All)
It's Boo Time
Boo Time
Boo Time

(Mike)
When obligations grow obtuse,
New neckties knab you like a noose,
The clown, the cleric, the recluse
All crank the sluice on their caboose.

(All)
Something that you buried,
way down the estuary,
Sharp and incendiary,
locked in a box of lead I said.

(guitar solo)

(Mike)
Mr. Metro mooned the meek mundane,
set sail on seas of cellophane
Mapped the mists of mauve membrane
Old friends all sang 'Auf Wederzeine'.

It might be howling on all fours,
Or strolling naked out of doors,
Perhaps a herbal remedy,
Reminds the mind what holds the key.

(All)
Something that you buried,
way down the estuary,
Sharp and incendiary,
locked in a box of lead I said.

(Dave)
It's not forbidden to be what you are.
Dip into that great big cookie jar.

(Mike)
where it's always Boo Time

(All)
It's Boo Time
Boo Time
It's Boo Time
Boo Time
It's Boo Time
Boo Time

(Mike scat solo)

It's boo, it's boo, it's boo.

Love Set Fire

(Murray on lead)
Small paper cranes
and wallpaper stains
that the pictures can hardly conceal

Love letters bent
from tears that were spent
on a cruel and a shabby ideal

But love set fire
to everything
and the flames looked like
angel's wings.

We played our parts
with paper hearts
and love set fire
to everything.

I know that it's wrong
to stay here this long
haunted by all of her things

I found out too late
only fools feel safe
in a house made of jokers and kings

But love set fire
to everything
and the flames looked like
angel's wings.

We played our parts
with paper hearts
(All)
and love set fire
to everything.

(accordion and string solo)

(Murray)
I've tried to escape her
and these bits of paper
but the memories I just can't outrun

So I'll keep lighting matches
and when one of them catches
this thing will finally
be done

(All)
Love set fire
to everything
and the flames looked like
angel's wings.

We played our parts
with paper hearts
and love set fire
to everything.

You Will Go to the Moon

(All)
Orbiting Rondelle

(Dave on lead)
You will go to the moon
You'll probably be heading there soon
Someday flowers will grow there
But first you've got to go there
Oh, You will go to the moon

(ooo, you gonna get it)

You will live in the stars
Your backyard will probably be Mars
You will ride a crater scooter
And eat off your computer
Oh you will live in the stars

(All)
Your stellar smile will always beam
Knowing you're home and home to stay
And you'll look down upon the earth
And say, "I can't believe we ever lived that way!"

(Dave)
You will go to the moon
There's plans for a hotel and a lagoon
You'll be savoring a star fruit
And kicking off your moonboot
Oh you will go to the moon.

Hey, you will go to the moon
A paradise to rival Cancun
And one side's always sunny
You'll be raking in the money
Oh you get paid on the moon

(All)
It's been our most abiding dream
And a dream is an easy sell
And when the tourists come in droves
You'll be the big cheese on that orbiting rondelle

(Dave)
You will go to the moon
Daring pioneers will call the tune

(vocal solo)

(Dave)
Take it home...

Ah someday flowers will grow there
But first you got to go there
Oh you will go to the moon
I'm gonna tell ya, you will go to the moon
One more! You will go to the moon!
